The French Cancer Institute (INCa) renewed its support of Cancéropôle Île-de-France in June 2011 and granted funding of 9.5 million Euros programmed under the 2009 / 2013 Cancer Plan.
New priorities were established, including the mobilisation of research teams in the field of social inequality and environmental and behavioural risk factors.
Between 2007 and 2010, the INCa financed almost 60 million Euros of research projects managed by Cancéropôle Île-de-France. The INCa also granted Cancéropôle Île-de-France funding of 10.1 million Euros for its 2007-2010 Procan call for proposals.
The Île-de-France Region is becoming increasingly involved in research support with a special interest in life sciences.
Every year cancer touches an increasing number of people. They are the cause of almost 30% of deaths in the Paris region. Cancéropôle Île-de-France today groups a research laboratory network of excellence and care establishments devoted to cancer. The Regional Council, which believes it to be essential to support basic research and its potential applications in cancer, has been funding it since 2004. Subsidiaries awarded by the Île-de-France Regional Council since 2005 have allowed doctoral and post-doctoral grants to be awarded to strengthen cancer research in the Paris region.
