Cancer research, a MAI

Cancéropôle Île-de-France has been subsidised by the Île-de-France Region as a Major Area of Interest for “cancer research.” The funding obtained under this framework provides major leverage for cancer research in Île-de-France.

Major Areas of Interest, or MAI, are multidisciplinary scientific networks created at the Île-de-France Region’s initiative. There are 16 for the 2012-2015 period which have the purpose of structuring the Paris region’s research networks around themes that can contribute to the Paris region’s international visibility.

As part of this framework, Cancéropôle Île-de-France is responsible for grouping cancer research worked on by the various institutions in the Paris region. This certification by the Île-de-France Region is accompanied by financial support awarded in the form of doctoral and post-doctoral research grants and MAI facility funding available to the Paris community. Network organisation, the implementation of scientific events, and science communication and popularisation actions are also possible through the Regional Council’s support.
